Initial Configuration
Overview
TheEnterasysNetworksRoamAboutAccessPoint3000includesaWebbasedinterface,anda
directconnectiontotheconsoleportforCLImanagement.YoucanalsomanagetheAccessPoint
3000usinganSNMPmanager,suchasEnterasysNetworksNetSightAtlas.
YoucanperformtheinitialconfigurationstepsthroughtheCLI
ortheWebinterface.
TheaccesspointrequestsanIPaddressfromaDynamicHostConfigurationProtocol(DHCP)
serverbydefault.IfaDHCPserverdoesnotrespond,thentheaccesspointusesthedefault
address,192.168.1.1.
IfyouutilizeaDHCPservertoprovisionnewelementsinyourIPnetwork,
useyourDHCPserver
orotherutilitiestodeterminetheIPaddressassignedtothisaccesspoint.Then,usetheDHCP
assignedIPaddresstoconnecttotheaccesspoint.
Using the CLI
TheAccessPoint3000includesanRS232serialportthatenablesaconnectiontoaPCorterminal
formonitoringandconfiguration.AttachaVT100compatib leterminal,oraPCrunninga
terminalemulationprogramtotheaccesspoint.Youcanusetheconsolecableprovidedwiththis
package,or
useanullmodemcablethatcomplieswiththewiringassignmentsshownin
Appendix C.
Required Connections
Toconnecttotheconsoleport,completethefollowingsteps:
1. Connecttheconsolecabletotheserialportonaterminal,oraPCrunningterminalemulation
software,andtightenthecaptiveretainingscrewsontheDB9connector.
2. ConnecttheotherendofthecabletotheRS232serialport
ontheaccesspoint.
3. Makesuretheterminalemulationsoftwareissetasfollows:
Selecttheappropriateserialport(COMport1or2).
Setthedatarateto9600baud.
Setthedataformatto8databits,1stopbit,andnoparity.
Setflowcontrolto
none.
SettheemulationmodetoVT100.
WhenusingHyperTerminal,selectTerminalkeys,notWindowskeys.
